How to check Shopify Customer events

Open Settings → Customer events in Shopify Admin. Everything that sends your store's events to analytics and ad platforms during checkout runs from here: app pixels added by apps such as Google & YouTube, and custom pixels you or a developer added. Here is what to look at.

Check it step by step

  1. List what is there. App pixels come from installed apps; custom pixels are code someone pasted in. Note each one that sends to Google Analytics, Google Ads or Meta.
  2. Check each one's status. A pixel that is not connected sends nothing. For a custom pixel, open it and check that it is connected after any change.
  3. Look for two pixels doing the same job. For example the Google & YouTube app and a custom pixel both sending GA4 purchases. Keep one, or the platform may count a sale twice.
  4. Check the customer privacy setting. Each pixel follows your store's consent settings. Where consent is required, it sends nothing for shoppers who decline, so lower numbers there are expected.
  5. Watch it send. Open your store in Chrome with the developer tools on the Network tab, filter for collect, and browse a product. Requests to Google Analytics carry your measurement ID (tid=G-…). Shopify runs pixels in a sandbox, so you will not see them in the page's own code.

Check your storefront for free

The free storefront check needs no account. It opens your store in a real browser and shows whether product view, add to cart and checkout events reach Google Analytics. It does not place an order.
